Mean is an 84-124 page magazine that hits the stands five times a year. It’s distributed across the United States and in London.
We started working with publisher Kashy Khaledi when he contacted me about redesigning the magazine and also handling the regular art direction, design and production of the new Mean. I was cautiously optimistic, having seen many startups come and go, but four years later, we’re still going to press.
__ Part of Mean’s success is low overhead, and we humbly take some of the credit for that. Not having to hire a full-time staff of designers and production artists allows Mean to cut out excessive office and staff costs without compromising quality. designSimple also takes care of most of Mean’s marketing design needs including mailers, invites and email blasts. Kashy keeps us on our toes, too. We roll out a redesign of the magazine on a yearly schedule to keep the look fresh.
