This perfect-bound soft-cover book was a marketing promotion for LA Weekly. They printed a relatively high number — I believe over 10,000. Many of the issues were given away at events during the anniversary year. In a separate project, I created a media kit for LA Weekly with a special pouch for this book, which let them distribute most of the remaining copies.
__ The most daunting task in the production of the book was getting clean images of the older covers and artwork. I chose 10 covers from each of the 20 years and all but the last few years’ worth had to be individually scanned and digitally retouched to present them in close-to-original condition in the book — the archived copies had all faded and yellowed. The ephemeral beauty of newsprint!
